Comparison: The Hobbit 1977 vs The Hobbit 2013 by ArtfulHattress
I suggest you to click on the thumb in order to fully see it because this thing is BIG! ;)

This is in here to justify why I personally don`t have any opinion over the animated versions of The Hobbit ... or LoTR (that was made in 1978, with its continuation being made in 1980) for that matter, even if I had seen them when I was like between 15 and 17 and ... yeah, my constant reaction was either "What the ...?", "Ok ..." and trying not to bust out laughing despite the inevitable tear-jerking parts that they contained and were then reworked by PJ that were also the ones to have shaped my childhood~
And yes, I honestly mean no offense to anyone that remembers the animated versions as parts of their childhood like Ghostwalker2016 because every single one of us is different and unlike you who got to see these animated versions at the prime of their time (and some time later, but before seeing PJ versions of the same thing), I was pretty much a teenager by then and had seen some of the live-action versions of it, thus in a way, I had kind of false reactions on them.
I do admire how some of the characters were cast, like (and especially) the Ringwraiths in Bakshi`s version, but most of the time, I was like " ... well, that is awkward.", kind of like my friend ValiChan (which also makes me glad because I`d hate if I would be the only one with those reactions) :giggle: and speaking of this, I cannot count enough times how many times did the comments on Bakshi`s LoTR parts on YouTube referred to "Gondor has no pants. Gondor needs no pants." gag that I didn`t knew until that day (aka swap any single word with "pants", with that word being "king" in the example text there). And I still laugh to this day whenever this surfaces up because well, Aragorn and Boromir in their 1978 versions don`t have any pants for real =P

Well, I should stop before I literary fry my brain and have a permanent laughter that would make me be gutted by nostalgic Tolkien fans that take offense at this journal, even though I honestly mean none of it since well, they are masterpieces for their time and I admire their creators for taking on this challenge. After all, things could be worse ... The Hobbit (1966).

I remember someone talking about Ralph Bakshi's version. Some of the character choices still make me scratch my head (Sam) and the animation is hilarious at times (see stamp).

Though to give Rankin-Bass some credit, they still managed to get the main details of the book out and it seems unfair to compare it to Jackson who had a much bigger budget and 3 flippin films to spread everything out. Same with Bakshi.

If you really want a laugh, check out William L. Snyder's The Hobbit. It's 12 minutes but man is it a hoot to watch.
